The fact that knowledge is directly connected to a free society has been established long back. Lord William Bentinck brought English education to India. And that was the beginning of the end of British rule in India or for that matter the world over. From Tilak to Gandhi, from Gokhale to Nehru, Patel to Indira, Shyama Prasad Mukherjee to Ram Manohar Lohia all went abroad to internalize the education where the idea of the free spirit was enshrined.

It was their ignited mind which brought the nation its freedom and spawned a whole generation of leaders under them. Maybe the next generation of leaders felt that after independence fight for freedom becomes irrelevant. Maybe they felt that freedom means their own freedom to chase wealth, power and to exploit. The leaders of today finally became gold diggers without knowing what is a free spirit, a free society and a free idea? That explains the leaders getting bogus certificates of education to prove they are educated; that is the reason that every leader has started boasting of his humble beginning; that is the reason that now the leaders don’t bother about the exalted things which a free human mind can do but pander to the basest thought which a human being is capable of – religion, patriotism and nationalism.

The way the advocates of Patiala house Court represented the frenzy and seething anger of almost the entire nation tells us about a sorry State, where the Law, Constitution, Judicial System and the Free Press has all been crushed; where the community comprises of people who are incapable of comprehending a free society. These citizens of India could never rise above their baser instincts. They never said anything, did anything, thought anything and talked anything remotely establishing that they were unique individuals. They were just zombies.

So cherish JNU, search everywhere and find such people who can think freely whatever it might be -good or bad- and preserve it. You will need them in the dark ages which are ominously on the horizon.
