5 Reasons why surrogacy should not be banned

1.     Financial support – For the surrogate mother and her family

2.     Medical Care for surrogate mothers – surrogate mothers health becomes responsibility of all concerned

3.     Tourism – all foreign parents stay in India for at least 3 to 4 months after delivery completing paper work.

4.     Population control – the women is gainfully employed without the fear of her producing her own child and increasing number of her own burgeoning family.

5.     Foreign exchange

Banning surrogacy is no answer for anything, regulating it is.

Our first knee jerk reaction to everything is ‘ban the obvious’. As if by banning we are removing the potential threat to the society completely, a mindset similar to the CBFC censor of Bonds kissing scenes. We have outlawed prostitution, we have outlawed same gender sex, we have banned liquor in several states but everything is happening nefariously in dark corners of nether land.  If only these were regulated instead it would have given us a more clean, open and acceptable society; same with surrogacy.

Like everything else in the country (think cricket etc.) if politicians are made State and District president of Surrogacy Society of India, maybe the whole thing becomes more acceptable to the society.
