New Delhi: Amid the never-ending tussle between AAP government and Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung, it seems the bureaucrats are the ones who have been suffering.

In a recent allegation, the Delhi government has accused Jung of threatening bureaucrats with “dire consequences” if they refuse to be party to “the exercise of obstructing the functioning of the Delhi government.”

Therefore, with the aim of shielding bureaucrats from victimization, the government on Friday appointed a Group of Ministers (GoM) consisting of Home Minister Satyendra Jain and Transport Minister Gopal Rai as members. The GoM will be chaired by Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia while the Principal Secretary (Services) will be Secretary to the GOM.

According to a report in The Indian Express, the government, in one of its statement said: “The cabinet took a serious view of the fact that several senior officers of Government of the National Capital Territory of Delhi (GNCTD) have informed the government that they had been summoned by Hon’ble LG and were threatened of dire consequences (including police action and/or disciplinary proceedings by instituting bogus inquiries against them) if they refuse to partake in the exercise of obstructing the functioning of Delhi government”.

Jung has dismissed the accusation terming it as “completely false and malicious”.

“In view of the background of several episodes of poor treatment meted out by the elected government to the chief secretary, the principal secretaries… and others, the Lt Governor’s Secretariat does not wish to comment on this issue,” Jung’s office said.

The AAP government has alleged Lieutenant-Governor Najeeb Jung for his role in the sudden transfer of VAT Commissioner Vijay Kumar, who as per the government’s claim was transferred after he conducted a raid in which 200 fraudulent companies were unearthed.

Reacting to the allegations, a Press release by the L-G office maintained that the officer was transferred on the orders of the MHA as he had completed his tenure in the national Capital and that the L-G was only following the orders of the MHA with which the sole authority regarding transfer lies.
