The Supreme Court has stated the obvious when it decided that politicians cannot be legally forced to perform their poll promise. This ruling opens up a whole new vista of possibilities. SC said something, which we always knew. We cannot force the politicians to do anything. Since our independence till date, we have lots of promises made by these political parties and politicians. It is on those promises that vast majority of simple voters go ahead and cast their votes. On those promises all the country goes and votes. And once the elections are over then first finding the same politicians is a wild goose chase and second believing that they will fulfill their promises is taken for a long ride.

Dejected, disappointed and desolate people of this country kept suffering with their poverty, ignorance and illnesses but their representatives kept becoming powerful and rich beyond words. The last 65 years have been a constant exercise of betrayal and nobody could ever take any of these politicians to the court of law for breach of promise.

Earlier people use to blame their fate and destiny for their miserable condition and leaders were not into the bigger picture of a lifetime of poverty and squalor. But now with this decision of Supreme Court at least one thing will be clearly established that the misery and squalor in which the common man lives is more because of lying and scrupulous politicians and not because of their destiny. This would give the people an impetus to look for a more trustworthy and honest political leader.

Performance on poll promises will be a test of credibility and a measuring yardstick for future. Non -performance will be a death knell on political careers.
