Bengaluru: Amid the continuing furor over the ban on the slaughter of animals and sale of meat on religious occasions, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) controlled by the Congress-Janata Dal (Secular) in the state has issued a public notice banning the sale of meat on the occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi on Thursday.

The notice was issued on Tuesday.

“It is a routine thing practiced on account of festivities,” said G Kumar Naik, BBMP Commissioner, while justifying the ban.

As reported by TOI, Kantharaju L, assistant director (animal husbandry), BBMP said, "The urban development department issues a set of days when liquor or meat should be banned in the city and the civic body Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) issues the related orders.”

Dinesh Gundu Rao, the Food and Civil Supplies Minister distanced himself from the decision banning the sale of meat.

“Government has not taken any such decision,” he clarified.

Patiala and Ludhiana strong arm restaurants to refuse non-veg during the ban. The food ban disease is becoming more viral than the dengue in Delhi.
