France: Two topless Femen activists jumped on the stage in the middle of an Islamist conference happening in the city of Pontoise near Paris on Sunday.

While addressing the conference, some imams were discussing the merits and demerits of wife-beating in Islam. Suddenly two women entered the stage, took off their clothes and displayed the messages written on their chests, which said, 'Nobody makes me submit' and 'I am my own Prophet'.

Consequently, the imams who were addressing the conference immediately left the stage. Soon security personnel and members of the audience violently dragged the women off the stage. The women were also mercilessly beaten by the audience while they were being removed from the stage.

Some protestors have demanded that the feminist be stoned to death.

After the incident, Femen International posted the following on its Facebook page

Womanophobia is illegal.

Sexism is a kind of racism.

Modern slavery is a crime.

Let’s condemn them together, and let’s remind them without ever losing any ounce of strength:

No one can enslave me, no one can possess me, I am my own prophet!

#FEMEN?

According to a report published in France24, the conference itself was subject to a Change.org petition, which gained around 6,000 signatures, denouncing the participation of radical speakers such as Nader Abou Anas, who has been accused of trying to legitimise rape within marriage.

Femen was founded in Ukraine in 2008 and is now based in Paris.
