Jaipur: Mothers are always supposed to protect their children no matter what. Well, under some circumstances this might not sound true. As in a recent incident, a 22-year-old women threw her infant baby in a well in the outskirts of Mansarovar locality resulting in the death of the infant. The woman has been arrested by the police and the body has been sent for post-mortem to confirm  murder.

The baby was suffering from a kidney ailment and was born prematurely weighing just 2 kg. The parents have spent over Rs 20,000 on her illness in the past two months since she was born.

The father of the child is a daily wage labourer and earns somewhere between Rs 200 to Rs 300 per day.

The family was facing financial problem because of the rising medical expenses. This might have led the mother to get rid of the baby.

Rajesh (24), the father of the infant, on Wednesday, informed police that his missing infant daughter was found dead in a well.

"The circumstances guided us to suspect the infant's mother Seema. When she was questioned, she told us that the family had not been able to even feed themselves and the infant properly due to the medical expenses. Frustrated by the situation, the woman threw her into the well late on Tuesday night," said Bala Ram, Mansarovar police station, SHO as reported by TOI.

The parents didn’t seem to be aware of the free medical facilities available in government hospitals.

"They told us that they had no idea that medical facilities for infants at government hospitals like J K Lon hospital are free. Whatever are the circumstances, the woman would be treated as per law and a case would be registered against her for murder after the post-mortem report,” a senior officer said.

Since, the infant has died because of being thrown into the well, the mother will be booked under section 302(murder) of IPC.
