Kochi: In the by-election on June 27 in the Aruvikkara constituency, the Oommen Chandy government will be tested as it continues to be rattled over the bar bribery scandal, which will be the main issue for the Opposition LDF (Left Democratic Front).

The by-election has been necessitated by the demise of G Karthikeyan, the then speaker and senior Congress leader.

The by-poll will give LDF the opportunity to test the bar scam as their main electoral weapons.  The results of the by-poll will indicate who will form next government in the state-UDF or LDF.

The ECI issued a notice declaring that the model code of conduct will be initiated in the district where the election is going to be held.

The notification for the bye polls would be issued on June 3 and the starting date of filing nominations would start on the same day. The end date of filing of nominations is June 10. The last date of withdrawal is June 13.

Counting of votes would start on June 30, using electoral rolls with reference to January 1 as qualifying date.
