Chennai: AIADMK chief J Jayalalithaa will contest on June 27 from Radhakrishnan Nagar seat after being acquitted from a corruption case.
Jayalalithaa said that the decision to this effect was taken at the AIADMK parliamentary Board meeting.

The seat was vacated by her party MLA P Vetrivel and it is expected that will contest from the constituency.

She had earlier represented her native Srirangam constituency before her conviction in the disproportionate assets case by a Bengaluru special court on September 27 last.

Jayalalithaa had to resign from her assembly membership because of the conviction.

After being acquitted by the Karnataka High Court on May 11, she was able to return as chief minister of the state for the fifth time.
AIADMK chief took charge as chief minister again on May 23 and would have to be elected as MLA within six months.

On the other hand, DMK and PMK have already announced they would boycott the bye poll, which comes a year ahead of the scheduled elections to the State Assembly.

Jayalalithaa’s party enjoys a strong majority of 150 members in the 234-member house.
